W.C Maunders Ltd. is still a family run independent company. The father of the current owners, a carpenter by trade, started the business as a building company in the mid 1940s. The company gradually moved towards retail and after trading successfully for a number of years established itself as a limited company in 1952 becoming Cheddars’ first builders merchants and DIY supplies.

The company has gone from strength to strength ever since, continually expanding and moving forward and we are proud to claim we are:
